Tianjin is one of China’s four municipalities (major cities with the same status as a province). It is located on the coast, 185km southeast of Beijing. It boasts China’s second largest port, north China’s major cargo airport, China’s most successful development zone – and it ranks sixth in terms of GDP amongst China’s cities and the has a total of 37 universities and technical colleges.
PanCathay is well known in the city and is a senior adviser to Tianjin’s development zone, TEDA, as well as acting as a business consultant to the city and we represent both TEDA and the Property Rights Exchange in the UK.

China’s State Council approved a major plan to develop Tianjin into the major growth area for the north of China. Just as Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta developed in the 80s, and Pudong and the Yangtse river Delta grew so dramatically in the 1990s, so Tianjin is predicted to grow and develop as the key centre for the north of China over the next 10 years. The focus of this growth will be the further development of the port to become the international shipping and logistics centre for north China; as a pilot zone for financial and land reforms. All this will be based around the manufacturing excellence of TEDA.
