Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area, ‘TEDA’ was set up by central government in 1984, along with 14 other coastal cities which were allowed to create development zones to attract foreign investment. TEDA is built on 33 square kilometres of reclaimed salt flats. Twenty years on, TEDA has been rated as China’s most successful development zone for the last 9 consecutive years.
